BJPs first list shows why efficiency and attention to detail are its election calling cards.
Two BJP candidates launched their campaign yesterday, canvassing with prayers, supporters, and graffiti. Another, from Asansol, quit the race just as it began. BJP announcement of 195 nominees (114 with incumbents re-contesting) for LS 2024 has kicked off election season full blast. As many as 81 seats, or 44%, have new candidates.
But when are the elections? | Good question. EC will play catch up – informed chatter on poll dates sounds like Met dept predictions of rain. BJP is ready, and candidates and supporters have hit the campaign trail.
Efficiency | BJPs first list has the clinical efficiency its poll machinery is famous for. Splicing, dicing, report cards, and performance reviews. That elusive but all-important formula defines winnability. BJP has its electoral management pat. It is this attention to detail, detailed planning, and excellent execution that makes BJP a behemoth.
Secret sauce | Pundits tie themselves into knots explaining BJP candidate selection. This time no different. Simply put, changes shake up the party midlevel; the cream will rise to the top in the grueling poll churn. So, 5-time MP and 4-term CM Shivraj and Delhi assembly LoP Bidhuri must prove credentials again, while the nomination of the infamous Brij Bhushan hangs fire, though all candidates in that region are decided.

Imports on tough duty | SPs whip in UP assembly till last week, Manoj Pandey, is speculated to be the BJP nominee from Gandhi bastion Rae Bareli, ex-Congress Jyoti Mirdha must fight from Nagaur (Rajasthan), just three months after losing her assembly fight as a BJP contestant. Finally, in MP, 24 of the 29 seats are decided. The five remaining include Chhindwara, where Congress Kamal Nath and son Nakul flirted with the BJP but did not get the come-hither. Maybe keeping Chhindwara for later has nothing to do with Kamal Nath. But sit back and watch, it is a poll season.
